I am writing this to let you know there is an equation editor that integrates with Canvas called Chem Type available for you and your students to use. Chem Type is a tool designed to help teachers and students who work with chemical notations. It is a personalized toolbar with common chemical symbols adapted for chemical notations to use in Canvas pages and assignments.
Chem Type integrates with Canvas as an LTI (app). Teachers and students have access to this equation tool through the Rich Content Editor plugin feature that appears on every Canvas page. This LTI is also available to use in Canvas Assignments, submission type using the External Tool option.
A math equation editor called Math Type is also available for teachers and students to use in Canvas that works similarly to Chem Type. The link above contains the instructions and details for how Chem Type and Math Type can be used integrated with Canvas.
