How to enter diacritical characters

Please use the following guide to enter diacritic characters within Windows Operating System.

Also known as Accent Characters or International Characters.

Note: Most systems at MPS support diacritic characters, but some do not. Most of our state and federal reporting does not support extended characters. When extended characters are not supported, the ASCII or Latin character equivalent should be used.

Navigate to the keyboard selection menu in the lower right corner and select the international keyboard.

After selecting the international keyboard, common diacritic characters can be typed by selecting the ALT key to the right of the space bar and the letter. For example, <Right ALT> + e types é.

Other characters can be typed by selecting the symbol, then the letter. See a complete list of keystrokes and characters below.

Examples:

' (quote) + e types é.
` (grave) + e types è.

Remember to change your keyboard back to the US keyboard when finished.

Alternative method:

Windows Key + . (period) will display the Emoji Keyboard, then select Symbols and choose your desired symbol
