Using the Follett Self Checkout Kiosk

Taking Care of Your Yubi Key

Your Yubi Key should be treated like you would treat a building door key. It provides access to the districts computer network and should be kept in a secure location away from students and staff that do not need it. It can be passed along to a media center substitute if required, but they need to treat it the same way. Just like with door keys, these are district/building owned assets and are not trivial to replace.

Logging In

The self checkout kiosks are configured to automatically launch the Follett Back Office program, but in order for students to check out books, you need to sign in as your buildings self checkout user. To do this, you will use a Yubi Key hardware security key provided by IT. This needs to be done approximately every 30 days, as that is the limit for a Google account session. This example will walk through signing in to Midland High, but the process is the same for every building.

  1. Click Login in the top right corner

  2. On the left side, click Sign in with Google

  3. Plug your yubi key into the kisok computer.
    For USB-A keys:

    For USB-C keys:

  4. At the follow screen, tap and hold the Y button on the Yubi Key. This will automatically fill out your buildings self checkout email and click next for you. If you need to manually enter your self checkout user for some reason, it is selfcheckoutXX@midlandps.org where XX is your buildings two digit number. In Midland High's case, 81. Leave the Yubi Key plugged in, we are going to use it again.

  5. The next screen will ask you to"Use your passkey to confirm it's really you." This is referring to your Yubi Key. Click Continue

    • IF FOR SOME REASON YOU ARE ASKED FOR YOUR PASSWORD click Try another way and select Use your passkey. This will bring you to the above screen.

  6. A small window should pop up asking you to enter the PIN for your Yubi Key. The exact popup may look different, but the options should be the same. If asked to use a smart phone or a hardware key, choose hardware key, which will bring you to this screen. Enter the PIN and click OK, or hit the Enter key. After that tap (do not hold) the Y button on the Yubi Key.

  7. After this, you should be redirected to the Follett Back Office screen, and have the usual self checkout view. Remove your Yubi Key from the kiosk.

  8. If for some reason a student logs out of the self checkout user, all you would have to do is click Login and Sign in with Google. The kiosk will remember the Google account for up to the 30 day limit.
